Khiladi Akshay to represent India at Winter Olympics

Bollywood’s Khiladi No. 1 Akshay Kumar feels privileged as well as nervous to run with the XXI Winter Olympics torch on Thursday in Canada. The XXI Winter Olympics are slated to start from on February 12,
2010 in which around 80 countries are participating. The competition includes eight sports, like ice hockey, figure skating and Alpine skiing. Last time in 2006, India had sent a team of four members to the competition held in Turin, Italy for sports luge, cross-country skiing and Alpine skiing, but India didn’t win any medal. So it seems like the pride of the nation is in Akshay’s hand this time.


When we wonder how an actor is chosen for the honour, Akshay explained, “I definitely didn’t get nominated because of my cricket skills. I may be a celebrity, but with great power comes even greater responsibility. I have put a lot of effort over the years supporting and being brand ambassador for the ‘Special Olympics’ in India. I would go to any lengths to promote sport in my country, my efforts have been appreciated worldwide, and I am touched that India shares my enthusiasm. To be honoured to carry the Olympic torch is so prestigious in every country; you can’t ask for this honour, you can only be recognised for your true love and dedication to children, to sport, to bettering your country’s involvement in the world. You can’t imagine how grateful I am. And how nervous as well!”

Imtiaz Ali’s next film would be for the production house Shree Ashtavinayak (who lately ran out of ‘Luck’).Says Imtiaz, “I was supposed to make a film with Ashtavinayak featuring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. Though it was a story written by me I didn’t quite like it myself. So I dropped the idea. I’ve no idea what I’ll be making for them. But I’m committed to do film for them next. Though we haven’t discussed my price or anything.”Imtiaz has also been signed by Sajid Nadiadwala to direct a film.Nowadays Imtiaz Ali spends the maximum time with people of a rather dubious social standing. His best friends at the moment are black-market ticket-sellers at movie theatres. They’re the ones who are keeping him constantly informed about the boxoffice progression of Love Aaj Kal.In fact they are so familiar with Imtiaz’s movements they track him down wherever he is to give him an update on his film’s collections.Says Imtiaz, “These black marketers are fearless and they mean business. They won’t tell me anything but the absolute truth about the ticket sales. They are the best and most reliable source of information on how my film is doing.The trade analysts have their own take, and the buzz within the industry tells me nothing about how the film is actually doing.Because everyone has his own axe to grind So I’ve found this method of monitoring my collections.”Imtiaz knows all the black-marketers by their names. He know where they live and they are free to visit him any time. The entire time since his film’s release Imtiaz has been hobnobbing with his friends in the black zone.

On Monday he was spotted outside Mumbai’s Chandan theatre at noon, inquiring anxiously about the shows for Monday.“They told me they had bought tickets to sell in ‘black’ rates for Monday evening and night and they had bought out the tickets for all the shows on Raksha Bandhan so I’m happy.”Imtiaz intends to celebrate with his friends from the black zone once the film is a certifiable hit.I’m not going by anyone’s verdict except theirs ” says Imtiaz resolutely. “You can call it a bit of chor bazaari in my life.”Imtiaz is upset by the guarded critical response to Deepika Padukone’s performance in Love Aaj Kal. “I think she really really got the point. She understood the character and its aspirations and she took her on internally. The best compliment for Deeepika came from Saif. After seeing the film he said Deepika gave a better performance than him.”.

Katrina Kaif's shooting as Amrapali for De Dana Dan

Katrina Kaif seems to be on an experimenting spree when it comes to her on-screen wardrobe. After donning a casual college girl look in New York, the actor will be seen in an Amrapali-like avatar in Priyadarshan’s De Dana Dan. Katrina Kaif, who’s currently in London to spend time with her family, has just finished shooting for a song Main baarish kardoon paiso ki for the Venus production at Mehboob Studios in Mumbai. Choreographed by Ganesh Hegde, the track composed by Pritam is an energetic, fun and contemporary number that sees Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar undergoing three or four costume changes, according to producer Ratan Jain. The song also features the other lead actors– Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Sameera Reddy and Neha Dhupia in contemporary costumes.Talking about Katrina’s look in the song over an email from London, designer Rocky S, says, “The brief given to me about the song in order to design Katrina’s look was that it was energetic, fun and contemporary. Since we wanted a retro-ethnic look, I felt it could be well-achieved through an Amrapali look, adorned with traditional jewellery like baju bandhs and mukuts.” Commenting on whether Katrina, who’s never donned an ethnic Indian grab before, had any apprehensions about the look, Rocky clarifies, “There were no apprehensions whatsoever from Katrina or the director once we discussed the idea. In fact, Katrina was a great sport and felt quite confident with the experimentation of outfits. The transition from the retro-look to an ultra-glam diva ensemble and eventually a new-age hip-hop artiste was pulled off by Katrina with much aplomb.” As for the rest of the film, Katrina has a fresh, clean and young persona in the film with a couple of saris as well, according to the designer. .

We needed to address serious issues with the multiplexes; however, we also lost out precious revenue in this period.The movies are back but our worries as the film fraternity are far from over. Have you realised what the scenario will be in the next few months of 2009? Movies, big and small, will be jostling for space at the box office. I don’t know how many of these will get their rightful due because of the mad rush.There is a difference between a buffet and an a-la-carte meal. A buffet is not necessarily the best way to enjoy a meal. Likewise, a rush of movies at the theatres from now on could be like a buffet with the audience not being able to savour their meal.There are also two other issues that I must write about in the context of movies. Akshay Kumar:Kambakkht Ishq is an illogical film

Akshay Kumar believes in entertaining audiences even if his films come with an 'illogical' tag. He admits that his forthcoming "Kambakkht Ishq" belongs to the same category."I don't want to get into logical films... I am happy doing films where one can keep discussions around logic at home, " Akshay Kumar told on phone from the US where he is currently on holiday."I want people to come with their parents and children, munch popcorn while the movie plays, get entertained, have some nice lunch or dinner after the show ends and then go back home happy and smiling, " he added."See, for so many Hollywood or Bollywood films out there, you don't ask around whether a particular scene or happening is possible or not. Look at James Bond movies - now don't we see so many illogical things out there? But we are fine and rightly so because these films eventually entertain. You don't search for logic there and in the same way, 'Kambakkht Ishq' too is an illogical film", said Akshay.Releasing July 3, the film, also starring Kareen Kapoor, was extensively shot in in Hollywood.
"And I am extremely lucky to have found this opportunity for myself. You get to see and do so many big things in just one film. Where else would you otherwise get a chance to shoot in Kodak theatre?"You set your film in nothing less than Universal Studios, then you do stunts along with Brandon Routh (better known as Superman), you romance with Denise Richards and Kareena Kapoor and then the ultimate pleasure is to share screen space with Ramboji (Sylvester Stallone), " he said.For Akshay, working in a film like "Kambakkht Ishq" was akin to a dream coming true."Frankly, the film was not just a journey but a roller coaster ride. There are so many big and known names who are a part of the film. Moreover, what's even better is that each of the aforementioned names are essential part of the film. It's not that they have been roped in just for the sake of it. There is no gimmickry involved and you will realise that once you see the film, " said the actor.Commenting on the film's budget, he said the makers of "Kambakkht Ishq" haven't gone overboard."The film's budget is decent in fact, not that huge as some may believe, It's a reasonable budget around Rs.45-50 crore and is in the similar range as 'Chandni Chowk To China' or a 'Singh Is Kinng'. We haven't gone overboard at all."He also said that in spite of so much being packed in this Sabbir Khan directed film, the makers have kept the film's length in check."Don't worry, we won't take much of your time", joked Akshay, "The film boasts of some power packed entertainment in those 2 hours and 15 minutes. I guess that is quite reasonable for a film of this scale." .

It's the same case with majority Indian families today. That's why I've made sure I made a universal, paisa-vasool film, " KAMBAKKHT ISHQ director Sabbir Khan makes a valid point.Everyone's hoping (and praying) that KAMBAKKHT ISHQ does the trick. How did Sabbir bag this prestigious project? "The sole person responsible for pushing me to this stage is Sajid Nadiadwala.I'm here because of his persistent confidence in me, " Sabbir reveals, adding in the same breath that Sajid noticed the spark in him after he assisted David Dhawan in MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI.Casting the Hollywood bigwigs must've been tough."It all started when I made a joke and Sajidbhai ended up taking it seriously. He managed to convince the actors and made it possible, " Sabbir says, adding in the same breath, "Working with them (the Hollywood stars) is something I'll never forget.I'd like to recall a particular incident, while shooting with Stallone. We were shooting at Kodak Theatre and had a crowd of approx. 6, 000 people that day. There was so much noise then, but the moment Stallone walked on stage, there was pin-drop silence.
