Actress Sonam Kapoor gifted 3000 Kites to School Children.

sonam_kapoot2

Actress Sonam Kapoor has donated special kites with regulation strings to school children and urged them never to use glass powder-coated manja (string) to fly kites.

The actress sent a letter to the principal of Arya Vidya Mandir School in Mumbai on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, pointing out that thousands of birds, as well as children are injured by glass-coated manja.

’The (donated) kites send a positive message to children, encouraging them to prevent the suffering of birds by using only string which has not been coated with glass’, Sonam said in the letter.

’I have been shocked and saddened to learn from my friends at PETA that countless birds are slashed, wounded, maimed and killed every day during Makar Sankranti and Basant Panchami. I am also disturbed by the fact that manjha (string) is responsible for numerous human injuries and even deaths, including that of a teacher who was killed just last year in Maharashtra,’ she said.

’In another incident, a youth was nearly decapitated by a manjha string while riding his bicycle. Such needless loss of life has moved me to take action for the sake of humans and birds alike.’

’I would also like to relay this message to all your students: study hard, be goal-oriented and be compassionate. You can start by showing compassion and not using glass-coated string,’ she wrote.

The manja (string) used in kite-flying competitions is often gummed and coated with powdered and finely crushed glass, making it lethal for pigeons, crows, owls and other birds who become entangled after the strings get caught in trees or on poles.

Sonam Kapoor and Bipasha Basu shares screens on Player

sonam-kapoor2

Katrina Kaif and Aishwarya Rai or Kareena Kapoor and Bipasha Basu or Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta- tensions have always surfaced when two actresses come together for a film. Sparks fly as backbiting, bitching or utter dislike emerges.

However, contrary to the general expectations, ravishing Sonam Kapoor and the Bong bombshell Bipasha Basu hit it off like a house on fire when they bumped on the sets of ‘Player’.

‘Player’ is an action caper from Abbas-Mastan factory and has Sonam and Bipasha as the leading females. Since the duo has never worked with each other, the crew members were jittery about how they would go about their business.

But instead of ignorance or showing any acrimony, they soon greeted each other and dug deep into engrossing chitchats. Bipasha, who is a fitness freak, lent her handy tips to Sonam who, on her part, shared her fashion advices.

And Sonam professed her envy for Bipasha’s body part- her oomph-evoking legs. Yes! Sonam is willing to swap her legs for that of Bipasha’s. Toned and well-muscled, Bipasha’s legs are fetching high demand these days. But we love Sonam the way she is. Let Bips keep her limbs. They suit her more than they would have suited Sonam.

Sonam Kapoor has become brand Ambassador for Electrolux

Sonam-Kapoor1

The association of Bollywood actors with brand endorsements are not unheard of and when a brand can rope in as sweet a face as actress Sonam Kapoor’s, the deal is worth it! Though nothing has been confirmed as of yet, it is being said that Electrolux, a popular name in the home appliances industry, is all set to sign up Sonam Kapoor as its next face. Hence Sonam Kapoor will be seen featuring in advertisements for Electrolux ranging from its refrigerators and washing machines to the microwave ovens and air conditioners.

Sonam Kapoor shot to fame with her debut performance in “Saawariya”, which in spite of being a failure at the box office, was enough to give Sonam a foothold in Bollywood. The very sweet and chirpy daughter of Anil Kapoor followed up her “Saawariya” act with films like “Delhi 6”, “I Hate Luv Storys” and the recently released “Aisha”. While her acting career has shown a steady progress, Sonam Kapoor has established a reputation in Bollywood as the most stylish actress of recent times. And according to critics, it is this quality of Sonam that makes her a popular choice for different advertising campaigns.

We are sure that people will like to see more of the fashion diva on the small screen. Official statements from Electrolux about Sonam Kapoor being their brand ambassador for a diverse range of appliances have not yet come but we are keeping our fingers crossed!

Sonam Kapoor has been hit by typhoid

Sonam Kapoor has been hit by typhoid. She will be out of action for around three weeks. A source close to Sonam says, "After she came back from her US holiday and her Thank You shoot, Sonam became extremely unwell. She was diagnosed as having typhoid and was advised complete bed rest for 20 days by her doctor."
Apparently, Sonam was asked to walk the ramp for Manish Malhotra (she had acted in his nephew’s directorial debut I Hate Luv Storys) during the Lakme Fashion Week but had to cancel because of her illness.

The source retorts, "Sonam was not to walk the ramp but simply attend LFW. In fact, she had to cancel a few work commitments including an endorsement event because of her ailment. She couldn’t go to Delhi or shoot for Thank You. She’s resting at home and can’t attend anything."Sonam says, "I was never going to walk the ramp for Manish. I was down with typhoid but am better now."

Sonam Kapoor will get a sexy make-over

Good-bye cute and chirpy look! Sonam Kapoor will get a sexy make-over for her film Players - a Bollywood remake of Italian Job by the action-thriller specialist duo of Bollywood Abbas-Mustan.
The girl will fill her wardrobe with short, sexy clothes for the film and the onus of making her look hot, like never before, is on the capable shoulders of Anaita Shroff Adajania, the fashion director of Vogue India. This is not the first time that the lady will design costumes for a Bollywood actress. She already has the credit for Aishwarya Rai’s saucy look in Dhoom 2 and has also designed stylish clothes for Deepika Padukone in Love Aaj Kal.
Not only dresses, Sonam will be given a super sexy image with the help of different accessories. Now, we can almost picture Sonam as another Aishwarya?
Abbas-Mustan has pulled up their socks for the film for which they even bought the remake rights; so it’s official. The shooting will take place in Russia and New Zealand from November. The movie is going to be big and will be made in an estimated $30 million-dollar budget.
Sonam’s co-star in the film is the debonair Abhishek Bachchan.

Sonam Kapoor is gaining

Sonam[1]1

Sonam Kapoor’s ‘Aisha’ may have added another link to her list of flops but the girl definitely is on the like list of most of the film makers. She is already going to wrap up Anees Bazmee’s Thank You, which is being shot in Canada. And now, she has agreed to be part of Abbas Mustan’s version of the Hollywood film The Italian Job opposite Abhishek Bachchan, her co-star in ‘Delhi 6’.

The role was earlier meant to be played by Katrina Kaif but the actress ditched the makers due to date problems. It was here that stylish Sonam Kapoor stepped in. With the kind of fan following Sonam Kapoor has managed to make and also with Neil Nitin Mukesh and Bobby Deol starring as well, the movie is surely going to make some stirs.

Aisha failed to make a bumper start

Aisha1

Though Aisha failed to make a bumper start and had just around 30-35% occupancy, the redeeming factor was its weekend collections. As per trade figures the movie’s worldwide first weekend collections are around Rs 26 crore approx, which is not bad given the movie is a chick flick.

Aisha, which opened on 475 screens in India and 135 screens overseas is doing expectedly good business at multiplexes; the movie has been well received by youngsters, especially style-hungry gals. Touted to be India’s answer to Sex & The City, Sonam Kapoor’s film is being referred to as an ‘effervescent, coming-of-age’ film.

PVR Pictures Head (Worldwide Distribution) is quoted as saying, “We are extremely delighted with Aisha’s initial response at the box office and expect the film to set a new benchmark for female protagonist centric films in India.”

Last Friday’s release Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai had a good first week of approx Rs 33.50 crore. The collections of the film are still rolling in.

Khatta Meetha dropped in week two with around Rs 7 crore approx collections as per early estimates. The two-week total is around the 39 crore approx mark. The movie isn’t a hit, or a flop.

I Also Wear Bikini In my real Life: Sonam Kapoor!

She's just two films old at 24. Togged in a trendy black jumpsuit, she flashes her trademark mischievous grin that reaches all the way to her eyes. Sonam Kapoor epitomises today's youth. Here's the perky and perceptive actor at her chirpy best Have you finished unwrapping your birthday (June 8) gifts yet? Which is best one of all?The best gift was that dad flew into Mumbai from Los Angeles for four days and then we went together to Macau. His visit was supposed to be a surprise but in all her excitement, my manager Nisha just let it slip out. But that was very sweet of him. I got some 500 books and the most delicious home-baked carrot cake from Monika, my publicist. At 24, how would you sum up your personality?I was born and brought up in the film industry. I have seen dad go through a lot - I had the ringside view of his struggle and stardom. He was never aware of his super-stardom, work has been worship for him. That experience, together with my mom and sis Rhea, keeps me well-grounded. I certainly don't have any false sense of self importance.I am very hard-working. I am like the pit bull - I never give up on anything. Like I get claustrophobic in lifts but I made sure I rode up and down in the elevator from the 38th floor hotel room in Macau recently with a brave face. I am scared of going underwater, so I will take to deep-sea diving. The easiest perhaps is facing the camera? Your recent photo spreads have been scintillating.Facing the camera for films surely comes easy to me because that is such a great escape. You are playing someone else! But I hate still camera. I overcame that apprehension working with Mr Bhansali when we had hundreds of photoshoots. I also don't look at myself in the mirror, I get self-critical and self-conscious.We heard that you will be soon busying yourself in a workshop with your co-stars in Ayesha.Ayesha is not a pure love story, it is about six or seven friends played by Ira Dubey, Amita , Lisa, Cyrus Sahukar, Arunoday Singh and Abhay Deol.Since the film spans over 63 days, we all have to really be friends before the film goes on floors. So if we have to work together for nearly four months we should have mutual trust too. Now that Abhay is back from New York, we can hold the workshops. How is it working for the first time with a lady director, Rajshri Ojha?Oh, we keep discussing back stories for every character in Ayesha. I can be annoying with all my questions to the director. I used to badger Mr Bhansali and Mr Mehra too.So Rajshri is no exception - at times she asks me when I will stop asking questions! (laughs) As for women directors , I think they make films most beautifully. I am a big Mira Nair fan because she uses space with her actors so effectively. What's Ayesha like? Do you identify with her?Ayesha is the Indianised version of Jane Austen's character, as you know already. Ayesha is a motherless girl who has taken care of the family. She wants to be in control - she likes everything to be perfect. She's smart and perceptive. But she challenges everybody which makes her self-destructive in a way.How and why did Abhay Deol come into the picture?Abhay is a brilliant actor. He can be fun and he has the confidence to carry off this role. He is a very secure actor, he knows who he is. He suits the role of Knightley aka Arjun who is a very sorted-out guy and he is at ease with Ayesha as a woman of substance. So is Ayesha anti-marriage? What's your view about the institution of matrimony?Ayesha definitely feels that marriage is not a merger. I am a romantic, so I too feel marriages cannot be arranged, but since I also know that my parents love me so selflessly, I will be smart about bringing home someone whom I love and of whom they approve. I will have to do a balancing act.You are a Jane Austen fan. What do you admire about her heroines? All her protagonists are independent, self respecting women. They read, write and play music. They have a definite sense of self-entitlement. And I am quite a feminist, so I love her work and most of my favourite authors are women writers like Sylvia Plath. Are you doing Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Sahibaan?
Mehra speaks to me about so many films, Sahibaan is one of them. Let us see which one of these works out. But I want to with him for sure. He is extremely realistic - a good man and a great filmmaker. I want to play characters of conflict - like the ones in his films. You have been signed up by Dharma Productions for I Hate Love Stories opposite Imran Khan. So are you prepared to get away from the traditional mould and don a bikini if "the role demands"?Punit Malhotra is the young, earnest director of the film. It's a young man's sweet romantic take. This will be a lovely film for Imran and me. It is a love story, a date flick. As for wearing a bikini - well I wear it in real life and I have worn angarkhas, salwar-kameez, bandana, jeans, skirts, gunjee - whatever it takes. If the character I play is on the beach - the correct gear would have to be a bikini. (squeals away naughtily). What kind of roles are you being offered these days?Oh absolutely anything - my sister is going through umpteen scripts offered to me. It is flattering that most of these are strong women roles.Having been an assistant director, when will the director in you surface? At present, I am still evolving as an actor. But the writer in me is wanting to surface. I don't know if I can be a good director because I am not so good at dealing with people. I would rather write screenplays.

Sonam Kapoor: I don't want to be just arm candy

Sonam Kapoor is all for getting into the commercial groove after doing off-beat films and says she won't mind playing Lara Dutta's role in "No Entry" or Priyanka Chopra's character in "Dostana". But she is clear that she doesn't want to be seen as just "arm candy" in song and dance sequences."I'm all game for doing movies that are set in commercial parlance, " said Sonam, who is choosing her projects carefully."It's a misconception that after films like 'Saawariya' and 'Delhi-6', I'm only looking at films with serious overtones. All I look for is meat in my role.""See, I have never looked down upon hardcore commercial cinema. It's just that I never wish to be an arm candy who does four songs, a couple of scenes and then vanishes away from screen. Those are not at all the kind of roles that excite me, " added Sonam, who will be seen in her father Anil Kapoor's home production titled "Ayesha".Sonam Kapoor is all for getting into the commercial groove after doing off-beat films and says she won't mind playing Lara Dutta's role in "No Entry" or Priyanka Chopra's character in "Dostana".
